Be hoppy now...

Got peeps?  I actually don't like marshmallow peeps.  However, I do like these bunny peeps that I put on these cards.  The challenge at Scrap It Girl for this new month of April is black/white and one other color. With my collection of black/white washi tape in hand (as my background),  I whipped up these cards in a jiffy!

If you are saving your washi tape for something more special, you could use paper scraps instead...do you have any paper scraps around?  Maybe just a few?

Create in a circle...

I have been on a "wreath kick" lately.  Some of my door decorations have seen better days and I decided that I needed to add something fresh and bright since the calendar says SPRING (I am trying really hard to ignore the snowflakes blowing through the air today).  

I added some ribbon and material scraps to an embroidery hoop (this one is 10 inches in diameter) and it makes a happy home for these decorative bunnies from Unique Laser Designs.  I just added some bright spring colors (sage green, coral, orchid, and periwinkle blue) with acrylic paint and then hot glued them onto the grassy hoop.  A lacey bow finishes it off and my door has gotten a much needed spring makeover.  This project is so quick and easy and you could do this with any of the adorable shapes from Unique Laser Designs (like the bees, butterflies, or birds)--check them out HERE.

Create for a challenge...

No fooling...I've been creating a lot!  I'm kind of addicted to these wood shapes from Unique Laser Designs.  And, it's April!  That means it is time for a new challenge over at Scrap it Girl too.  This month's challenge is "Tags or Bags".  I was going through my stash of "scrap" and found this cute board bag/box and thought it would be perfect for a surprise spring gift for a friend.  

This cute bunny is just simply colored with a white gelato.  I like how he looks a little shabby chic.

The eggs are painted with acrylic paint and then I added some Rock Candy Stickles.  I used a Fiskars border punch for some grass and it is all ready for filling with some sweet treat surprises.  

My favorite?  Starburst jelly beans.  Or Reeses Peanut Butter eggs.

Create "hoppiness"...

I cannot stop playing with these wood shapes from Unique Laser Designs.  This is a new company and I am so excited to share that I am now one of their Design Team members! They keep adding new shapes to their site and I keep adding to my long wish-list!

My birthday present to myself (actually I used a gift card, so I guess it was a true birthday present), was to buy a giant set of Gelatos. I blame Linda Barutha (of Linnie Blooms fame) for this new addiction.  If you haven't played with them--they are blendable, soft, pastel crayon sticks.  How is that for an explanation?

So, I scribbled with the Gelatos on this wood tag.  

  Then, added some water and blended.

Next, I used this honeycomb stencil from Unique Laser Designs and spritzed my own mixture of pearl white paint and water.

It created the coolest background for this tag decoration!

I added some bunnies and a picket fence (all from Unique Laser Designs) along with some dried flowers and grassy ribbon.  These wood shapes are SO versatile.  The Gelatos blended and sit so fabulously on the wood background, and I used just straight white Gelato (no water) on the fence.  The bunnies are colored with Distress Ink, Distress Stain, and a Copic marker.  The natural grain of the wood is so beautiful, I like to let it show through sometimes.

Well, I have neglected housework and some family members long enough tonight, but you are going to see me playing with these wood shapes from Unique Laser Designs a lot---like I needed a new crafty addiction!

Create a wish...

My wish...SPRING!
Oh spring, spring...where for art thou spring?

My little spring thing last week really didn't seem to have any effect on Mother Nature, so I'm trying again. This time, I'm making a wreath to grace the door and scare away the winter spirits.

First, I took a straw wreath and wrapped and wrapped it with this pastel variegated yarn.

Next, I took a Linnie Blooms canvas bloom and made a cut in it to the center.  I colored it with gelatos and spritzed with water so I could spread the color with my fingers.  These new spring blooms come in 2 sizes and I colored 5 of each size for this project using all shades of pinks and orange.  Some of the flowers have LOTS of color, some just a bit.  Some are more orange, some are more pink. A flowery hodge-podge!

Once dry, I dripped some  hot glue onto one section next to the slice...

and overlapped the adjacent petal to give the bloom some curved dimension.

Next, it's painting time!  I painted these ADORABLE Easter shapes and letters from Unique Laser Designs.

I "marble-ized" the solid egg and bunny by blending gelatos over the dried acrylic paint and then splattered the letters with pink paint after covering them with a few thin coats of Distress Stain Picket Fence.

I added some seed beads to the center of the blooms and then tucked the blooms in with the wood shapes, a burlap ribbon, and some twisted paper leaves (attaching all of them with hot glue).

This is my ode to spring.  Mother Nature are you listening this time?
